HEPA filter fastening
Material Stainless steel 1.4404 (V4A)
Construction Frame construction made of square pipes
Mounting Self-adjusting spring elements with plate springs
Mounting pressure 240 kPa (2,35 kg/cm²) on the filter gasket
Replacement of a spent HEPA filter is simple to perform.
Ventilator
Construction Direct-drive twin air-inlet radial ventilator
Mounting Fan and motor mounted in vibration-adsorbing rubber mountings
Vibration Motor and rotor are balanced according to performance class Q 2.5
The ventilator, motor and bearings are maintenance-free.
Fusing/Control
Motor overheat cut-off with re-start lock, smooth fan start and monitoring of the condition of the pre- and HEPA filters. Alarm signal by circuit breakage to the display panel.
Air velocity control (Thyristor control)
The laminar air flow velocity is monitored by means of the hot-wire method which allows a permanent automatic adjustment of the radial fan. The required air flow velocity is held constant with increasing filter clogging. The air flow sensor is situated in the clean area between the HEPA filter and the protective grid.

Trace analysis
Mobile Trace Measurement laboratory

Since 1977, this mobile trace measurement laboratory of the Research Center, Jülich has been under way in Europe. Laminar-Flow equipment Series FLORA I is integrated in the roof. An example of guaranteed filter seating tightness!
Adsorption with activated charcoal

Filter with activated charcoal are used for adsorbing volatile substances from the air.

Highly porous activated charcoal with an internal surface area of 500 - 1400 m²/g binds numerous gases and vapours principally by means of Van der Waal’s forces. The curve of adsorption as well as the adsorptive capacity of the charcoal can be obtained from the experimentally determined adsorption isotherms.

Most gases with a molecular weight of 30 and more are adsorbed by activated charcoal.

Adsorptions Isotherms

Adsorptions Isotherms

The activated charcoal we use adsorbs the following amount of compounds at a concentration of 1 g/m³ and a temperature of 20°C.

1 kg activated charcoal adsorbs maximally:
Acetone 100 g Benzol 250 g
Chlorbenzene 230 g Ethanol 85 g
Dichloromethane 120 g i-Propanol 100 g
Tuluene 280 g Trichloromethane 200 g
Xylene 420 g Hydrogen sulphide 40 g
Methylmercaptane 40 g Formaldehyde 100 g
Ether 60 g

These data are based on the adsorption of each substance singly to the activated charcoal.
